WORD! is the longest running poetry and spoken 
word night in the Midlands.


Based at the Y Theatre, Leicester, it takes place on the first Tuesday of every month, between 8.00 and 10.30pm. The evening is composed of an open mic, followed by a booked act.

Nick Field makes contemporary performance that is playfully shaped, sharply observed and meticulously crafted. He has had plays commissioned and produced by leading theatre companies including The Royal Court, Paines Plough and Theatre Royal, Plymouth. He is also a short film maker, his first film Treehouse has toured with the BBC Big Screen and been screened and exhibited by the Propeller Film channel. He has taken his work to major events, venues and festivals internationally including Soho Theatre, The Royal Festival Hall, Latitude Festival and Kulturhussett, Stockholm.

As an arts educator and workshop facilitator Nick has worked with organisations including The Southbank Centre, City Lit, The Poetry School, Ideas Tap and New Writing South. In this two hour writing masterclass he will help you develop new writing, share insights and give feedback. Not to be missed.

SHOWCASE SMOOTHIE 

Showcase Smoothie presents SHOWCASE - a collective of male poets and performers with exp. of mental health problems, cars, nature, cooking, bikes and all manna/manner of other things. Mentored by Patron, Jean Binta Breeze MBE and an array of other renowned writers - this special performance for WORD! has been directed by acclaimed writer/performer and the night's compere, Rob Gee.  

Showcase Smoothie has featured by the BBC as part of their Headroom Season (also featuring Ruby Wax, Stephen Fry and Myra Syal). A film has been made about it by the young people’s charity, Trutube and this has featured at the BFI (British Film Institute). A film made by ’Video Nation’ has been showcased on 10 ‘Big Screens’ located across the UK. The project has also been documented by the UK’s leading mental health journal, ‘Mental Health Today’. Showcase Smoothie is championed by Peter Miller, CEO of LPT NHS; Professor Lord Patel of Bradford, OBE and Dr Mohammed Al-Uzri.
